On a Personal Note: The things i’ve learned about myself.

…This week at least. ūüôā

1. I’ve realized that i have been posting too many blog tours lately and have really neglected the reason why i started this blog – to share a little bit of me with the world. Not that I’m under any delusion the world is interested, of course. It just instantly makes you sound cooler when you mention you have a blog, and I can use any help I can get.¬† ūüôā

2. TOMS shoes, however amazing they are, are not the best for rock climbing. Particularly new blue suede shoes (and yes, I did just break out into song.) Although I DID made it to the top of the rock wall, it took all my very limited arm strength to reach it. I was slipping and sliding the WHOLE way up and, come to think of it. the whole way down as well! I’m sure it was quite entertaining to the people below, but my arms were not amused the next day. I need to work out more. (Don’t worry, my TOMS were perfectly fine.)

3. I like (okay, love) the Curious George soundtrack. And I’m not ashamed. The main musician on the cd, Jack Johnson has been a favorite of mine since I saw the Mellow Show spoof from SNL. Okay, so maybe I was exposed to him a bit before that, but the skit solidified my liking of him, even if it was Andy Samberg and not the real thing.
You have to check it out if you haven’t seen it already. Because I love you all so much I’ll even do the work for you, the direct link’s right there. Go already. I know you’re curious.

Now that you’ve seen it, I can get back to my comments on the cd. ūüôā

Could a kid’s movie soundtrack get ANY cooler? Ben Harper, Matt Costa? Awesome.
Every song makes me happy, including the odd beginnings to¬† “the 3 R’s” song. “…3 is a magic number, yes it is, it’s a magic number…”
I even love the liner notes!¬† I’ve never been a Curious George kinda person, but they’re just too stinkin’ cute to not like.

4. I read in a book (imagine that!) about a coffee-house that was full of musicians and artists and with wannabe musicians and artists. I figured out I don’t necessarily fit into either of those categories. I just wannabe with the legits and wannabe’s :

5. I MUST be OCD, I organized my jeans alphabetically by style. Yikes. Bootcut, Flare, Skinny, and Straight all there in my drawer in a nice, neat row.

6. I’m a horrible television viewer (viewee?) if there were a test, I would fail. BAD.
If I told you I had a favorite show, it would be LOST. Well, guess what? I FORGOT it was on tonight, COMPLETELY. Bad, Bad, sarah. Thankfully, they did play their usual recap show so I didn’t miss too much. And, hey, there’s always Hulu in the morning. (With a few less commercials!)

That’s it! If you’ve made it through this blog, thank you.
If you enjoyed it, there’s more to come, so please come back. Or subscribe on my nifty little subscriber thingy on the sidebar, and you’ll be notified of new stuff. Cool, Huh?
If you didn’t like it, well, I’ll still be having lots of blog tours here, so come back anyway.

Jason Gray: Everything Sad is Coming Untrue CD Review

How incredibly gifted can one person be? This guy is one of the best singer/songwriters out there. I was a little frightened that Jason Gray would not be able to match the brilliancy that is shown in his previous record, All the Lovely Losers. I am delighted to say that fear was completely ungrounded. Even after listening to this cd nearly non-stop for two weeks it hasn’t gotten old.

This is not a light listening record. Sure, the songs he sings are fun, but when you get down to listening to the lyrics and really hearing what Jason is saying, this cd becomes piercing. I don’t know of any other songwriter who can write of such things in so eloquent a way.

here’s a few of the tracks that really stand out for me:

“How I Ended up Here” is a funny tongue-in-cheek song about avoiding people. It’s so funny at first listen but then, when you really listen to the lyrics it becomes sobering. Here’s the lyrics:
http://jasongraymusic.com/home#/music/how_i_ended_up_here

One of the songs that is very reflective of our humanity is “Everything Sad is Coming Untrue” and particularly Pt. 2 see lyrics here http://jasongraymusic.com/home#/music/esicu2

Possibly the most striking musically is the track, Fade with our Voices.

In “More Like Falling In Love” Jason reveals the heat of every broken person, just looking for someone to love and be loved back Check out the lyrics:

But, my favorite out of them all, is the Golden Boy and the Prodigal, it is a lyrically rich and is one of the most confessional songs i have heard in a long time.

Be sure to stop by Jason’s website to have a listen to this amazing record!

Take a Listen

There’s something about this song i truly love. It’s called Cathedrals by Joan Osborne. The original was recorded by Jump, Little Children

Take a listen and tell me what you think!

In the shadows
of tall buildings
of fallen angels
on the ceilings
Oily feathers
and bronzen concrete
faded colors
pieces left incomplete
The light moves slowly
past the electric fence
across the borders
between continents

In the Cathedrals
of New York and Rome
there is a feeling
that you should just go Home
and spend the lifetime
finding out just where that is

In the shadows
of tall buildings
the architecture
is slowly peeling
Marble statues
and glass dividers
someone is watching
all of the outsiders
The line moves slowly
through the numbered gate
past the mosaic
of the Head of State

In the Cathedrals
of New York and Rome
there is a feeling
that you should just go Home
and spend the lifetime
finding out just where that is

In the shadows
of tall buildings
of open arches
and lessly knealing
Sonic landscapes
echoing vistas
someone is listening
from a safe distance
The line moves slowly
into the fading light
a final moment
in the dead of night

In the Cathedrals
of New York and Rome
there is a feeling
that you should just go Home
and spend the lifetime
finding out just where that is

In the Cathedrals
of New York and Rome
there is a feeling
that you should just go Home
and spend the lifetime
finding out just where that is

His cd all the lovely losers is amazing! Grace and the cut are my definite favorites ūüôā

kendallKendall Payne. I have two of her five cds, which are really good. The tracks on both of them are  diverse, with some very beautiful lyrics

My favorite Books of 2008 will be posted tomorrow!

Addison Road – Hope Now music video

I love these people!

Have a listen and tell me what you think! you can read the lyrics below.
Also check out Jenny’s blog on the right!

If everything comes down to love
Then just what am I afraid of
When I call out Your name
Something inside awakes in my soul
How quickly I forget I’m Yours

I’m not my own
I’ve been carried by You
All my life

Everything rides on hope now
Everything rides on faith somehow
When the world has broken me down
Your love sets me free

When my life is like a storm
Rising waters all I want is the shore
You say I’ll be ok and
Make it through the rain
You are my shelter from the storm

Everything rides on hope now
Everything rides on faith somehow
When the world has broken me down
Your love sets me free

Everything rides on hope now
Everything rides on faith somehow
When the world has broken me down
Your love sets me free
You’ve become my hearts desire
I will sing Your praises higher
Cause Your love sets me free
Your love sets me free
Your love sets me free
